Hampta Pass

Hampta Pass (4270m)

Duration: 8 Days
Easy: Most of our camp based trips, with easy activities, that are optional and involve fairly easy travel. Trips may include short hikes of two to three hours or optional walks at low elevations. Includes less demanding whitewater trips with easy support and myriad options.

Moderate: Active trips involving hiking over reasonable terrain, within vehicular access, upto elevations less than 4000 meters, or trips with long walking days, multiple rafting days, wilderness camping. Includes more demanding whitewater trips with Class III rapids.

Demanding: Hiking and trekking to elevations exceeding 4000-5000 meters, away from vehicular access, over multiple days. Encompasses demanding whitewater with Class IV rapids.

Challenging: Our most demanding trips include climbing at high elevations in excess of 5000 meters, in remote and extreme conditions with no access to roads; trips to remote, extreme wilderness; mountaineering trips, and demanding whitewater trips with Class IV-V rapids.
Grading:  Demanding
 
A short trek which leads from the lush greens of the Kullu valley to the barren landscape of the Chandra valley. The trail goes right up to the base of the high mountains of Deotibba and Indrasan (both 6000m plus) peaks and crosses over at the Hampta Pass.
Day 01: Drive Delhi to Manali (2050m) 10-11 hrs.

Day 02: Prini to Panduropa (2800m) 4-5 hrs.
From the village of Prini it is all the way uphill to the village of Saythen. There are fine views down the Kullu valley. After Saythen the trail levels out and enters the narrow forested valley.

Day 03: Panduropa to Chikha (3270m) 4-5 hrs.
Now we are in the high country above the tree line. We cross several side streams before descending to the Hampta river which usually has a snow bridge or there would be log to cross set by the shepherds. We camp at the beautiful meadow dotted by colourful alpine flowers.

Day 04: Chikha to Valu ka Ghar (3700m) 3-4 hrs
A short day we camp just before the pass.

Day 05: Valu ka Ghar to Hampta Pass (4270m) to Siliguri (3750m) 6-7 hrs
A steep climb over tscree slopes and boulder fields leads us to the Hampta Pass which offers beautiful views of Deo Tibba and Indrasan ( both 6000m peaks). A steep descent on the rocky slopes which could be quite dangerous at some points brings us to our campsite at Silliguri.


Day 06: Siliguri to Chatru (3360m) 3-4 hrs
A couple of river crossings and a steep descent all the way brings us to a small settlement of Chattru on the banks of the Chandra river. Overnight camp.

Day 07: Drive Chatru to Manali (2050m) 2-3 hrs

Day 08: Drive Manali to Chandigarh and board the evening Shatabdi to Delhi.
