Inflatable Kayaking

A smashing new dimension to the whitewater experience, never before in India!Guide your own inflatable kayak through the rapids of the Ganga, Tons, Kali and many more rivers. Aquaterra Adventures offers exciting river running on inflatable kayaks, where you can ride alone or with a partner.

In an Inflatable Kayak every rapid is a challenge! The kayaks that we use are quick, maneuverable, and very stable if paddled with an aggressive spirit. Our experienced guides will lead your group down the river, and will give you tips for safe whitewater inflatable kayaking. We use top of the line kayaks and accessories to ensure a safe and adventurous trip. An Inflatable Kayak (IK), or Ducky, is more stable than a hard shell kayak and easier to master. A 2 person IK is a great fun way to take a whitewater newbie through rapids.

Most of our Inflatable Kayaking trips float an initiation stretch of river with ample practice time to gain confidence before we get to the big river rapids. You will learn how to navigate your own kayak down the river. Experience whitewater like never before by learning to read water on longer trips, maneuver around rocks, holes and even surf! Your guide, in a nearby kayak, will give you continuous instruction, showing you how to maneuver your kayak and explain river running technique. Inflatable kayaks are stable and maneuverable, so no kayaking experience is needed to comfortably control the kayak. We’ll hit lots of Class 2 and easy Class 3 rapids in the kayaks, making it an exhilarating day on the water! You””ll see lots of birds and monkeys and maybe, even some wildlife while we float through the pools in between the rapids.

Towards the end of the season, when the water goes down, this is a great way to experience the river. Inflatable Kayak Trips are best suited for experienced river runners who would like to branch out and try something new. Persons who have rafted plenty before can look upon this as the next level of challenge. There is nothing like the thrill of successfully running a rapid in your own boat! These boats will put you at eye-level with the rapids and will add a whole new dimension to your trip. You should plan on getting soaking wet – you will probably get to try it!Note : Inflatable Kayak Trips are only offered during normal flows. Good physical conditioning and knowing how to swim is recommended.

While day trips are available, we recommend the plan below for those who wish to really get out there and spend a weekend of fun, outdoors and learning.

The Ganga IK Blast: (Highly Recommended for group travel for 4-12 persons) The Ganga IK Blast is a trip recommended for persons who have rafted on a few occasions previously, and would like to up the challenge of paddling their own craft down river. This trip takes you through the fundamentals of kayaking, teaches you how to paddle an IK, understand river running and read lines down a rapid, and camp out on your own outdoors. It is in fact, a must-do for most people who love water and the outdoors.

Day 01:
Arrive Camp Silver Sands in time for lunch. Get introduced to gear, and after a safety briefing, paddle your IK and get used to the feel of the craft, get helpful hints and handy tips from your guides, soon you will be paddling like a pro! River level depending, either practice in the eddy at Camp or run a small initiation section below Camp. Back to Silver Sands for evening tea/coffee, chill out. Beach volleyball. Campfire, dinner and overnight Camp.

Day 02:
After an early breakfast, drive 90 mins to Devprayag, the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers, which meet to form the Ganga. Ready our crafts, inflate them and paddle down Class 1 and 2+ rapids. Work with your guide to maintain ferry angles and run the right lines down rapids. Paddle till the largest beach on the Ganga, at Beas Ghat, northern India’s best fishing spot for the golden mahseer. Set up tarps for the camp out, get meals ready, take a hike, collect driftwood for a token campfire and prepare the evening dinner in the communal kitchen. Overnight Camp.

Day 03:
Early wake up to get tea / coffee going. Rustle up a quick breakfast and break camp. Get on the river again for a big river day. Run a mellow Class 2 section till Kaudiyala. Scout our first biggie at “Daniel’s Dip” and understand the line that the boats need to run. The daring can have a go (on guide discretion), and if you don’t feel like a swim, its easy to carry your boat around. Paddle down to the “Wall” where a similar exercise is carried out. Its thrilling to get through, or to even take a toss and end up swimming. Reach Camp Silver Sands for lunch. Depart for onward destination.
